NGC 2336 in Camelopardalis

This barred spiral galaxy is around 100 million lightyears distant and approximately 200,000 lightyears in diameter – so twice the size of our galaxy. It has at least eight spiral arms, containing numerous large HII regions.

The smaller spiral galaxy to the lower right is IC 467, at a distance similar to that of NGC 2336.

This image is the result of just under 7h of RGB data capture from Horsham, over three evenings in January 2026. A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien reflector.
