NGC 1491 in Perseus

This emission nebula is around 9,800 lightyears distant. Its deep red colour is due to many massive stars within the nebula, producing large amounts of ultraviolet radiation and ionizing the hydrogen gas.

This HOO image is the result of 15 hours of Ha and OIII data capture from Horsham, over 5 evenings in December 2025 and January 2026. A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien reflector.
