IC 405 Flaming Star Nebula in Auriga

This combined emission and reflection nebula is around 5 lightyears across and 1500 lightyears distant. It is powered by the luminous bluish star AE Aurigae, seen just to the right of centre in this image. This image shows the brightest part of the nebula, with a fainter section out of frame.

This coloured narrowband (H-alpha, Sulphur-II and Oxygen-III) image is the result of 6.5h of data capture from Horsham, over two evenings in January 2022. Hydrogen has been mapped to red, sulphur to green and oxygen to blue.

A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera was used, with an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain reflector.
