Alnitak and the Horsehead Nebula

Four hours of data capture using a hydrogen-alpha filter, over three evenings in January 2022, was used to produce this monochrome image. The bright star on the left is Alnitak in Orion's Belt, while the famous Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) to the right of centre. The dark Horsehead shows up against the brighter emission nebula IC 434, which stretches from left to right in the upper half of the image.

Part of the Flame Nebula can be seen at bottom left of the image, while the reflection nebula NGC 2023 is below left of the Horsehead.

A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro monochrome camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain reflector from Horsham.
