Messier 82 in Ursa Major

This starburst galaxy is around 12 million lightyears distant and 37,000 lightyears in diameter. The burst of star formation in the galaxy core is thought to have been triggered by a close encounter with it's neighbouring galaxy M81.

This image is the result of 9.5h of data capture over three evenings in January 2020.
