NGC 6231 in Scorpius

This striking open cluster is around 5600 lightyears away and is estimated to be 2-7 million years of age. It is part of the larger Scorpius OB1 Association, and is sometimes known as the Northern Jewel Box.

This LRGB image is the result of 2h 40m of remote data capture from New South Wales, over two evenings in May 2025. A ZWO ASI6200MM Pro camera was used, through a 17-inch Planewave CDK reflector.
