This less-imaged loose globular cluster is approx 52,000 lightyears distant and 53,000 lightyears from the centre of the galaxy. It was discovered in 1784 by William Herschel.
A tidal tail was discovered in 2005, extending about 45 degrees across the sky. The cluster also shows some deformation in the outer parts – so it is conjectured that there has been some disruption because of an interaction with our galaxy.
This image is the result of 2h 30m of RGB data capture from Horsham, over five evenings in March and April 2025. A ZWO ASI2600 MM Pro camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien reflector.
