Arp 244 Antennae Galaxies in Corvus

The Antennae Galaxies NGC 4038 (the bluish lower galaxy) and NGC 4039 are one of the better-known interacting pairs. There have been several close passes over time, the first thought to have occurred around 350 million years ago. Today, the long tidal tails have a total length of 360,000 lightyears.

The two disrupted spiral galaxies lie at a distance of around 70 million lightyears.

This LRGB image is the result of 3h of remote data capture from Chile, over two evenings in April 2025. An FLI ML16200 camera was used, through a 20-inch Planewave CDK reflector.
