NGC 2175 Monkey Head Nebula in Orion
This open star cluster embedded in an emission nebula, is around 6530 lightyears distant. The monkey head shape is in near profile, facing left.
This image is the result of 30min of RGB data capture and 9h of narrowband imaging, through Hydrogen-alpha, Oxygen-III and Sulphur-II filters, over 3 evenings in February 2023. Hydrogen has been mapped to red and oxygen to blue.
A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro monochrome camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain reflector, from Horsham.
