NGC 1291/1269 in Eridanus

This rare lenticular galaxy with an outer ring structure, is around 33 million lightyears away and 80,000 lightyears in diameter, so around three-quarters of the size of our galaxy. One explanation for its structure is that it is the result of a collision with another galaxy, billions of years ago.

This LRGB image is the result of 2h of remote data capture from New South Wales, on an evening in August 2022, using a 17-inch Planewave CDK reflector and FLI Proline PL 16803 camera.
