Messier 71 in Sagitta

M71 was long thought to be a dense open cluster within our galaxy, but is in fact one of the loosest globular clusters orbiting the Milky Way. It is around 12000 lightyears distant and 27 lightyears across.

This LRGB image is the result of 40 minutes of data capture on an evening in August 2021.
