IC 1848 Soul Nebula in Cassiopeia

This emission nebula, with interleavings of dark nebulosity, is around 7500 lightyears distant. This image covers just part of a larger structure, in the 'body' of the nebula. The stars comprise the open cluster IC 1848, the brightest member of which is just left of centre shining at magnitude 7.1, below naked-eye visibility. This is HD17505, a giant blue-white double star.

This image is the result of 10h of data capture, over five evenings from December 2020 to February 2021.
