Messier 51 Whirlpool Galaxy in Canes Venatici

M51 is a classic spiral galaxy approx 23 million lightyears distant and 60,000 lightyears in diameter. It's spiral arms have been disrupted to some extent by the companion interaction galaxy NGC 5195. This is probably slightly more distant than M51.
