NGC 2237 Rosette Nebula Bok Globules

The dark blobs in this image are called Bok Globules.
These are pockets of dark dust and gas, usually containing newborn protostars, on their way to becoming fully fledged main sequence stars. The Bok Globules here are being created by the interstellar wind and radiation being blasted by the open star cluster NGC2244 at the centre of the nebula. The two bright stars at top centre are two of the brightest in this cluster.
